OUR PARISH

Our Story

In 2010, Father Jason Foster was given the hierarchical blessing to return to his home town to found a new Orthodox Christian community. That Christmas Eve, sixteen Orthodox Christians gathered for the first Divine Liturgy of our fledgling parish. The timing was providential and the name of the feast was taken on as the name of our community.

For several years, we alternated between Barksdale Credit Union in South Bosier for weekend services and Father Jason's home for weekday services and other events. In 2013, we were blessed with the unexpected opportunity to purchase an expensive plot of land in the Southern Loop Area of Shreveport at a steep discount. We thanked God for the opportunity and set about building the foundations of our new home. A multipurpose building was completed in 2016, and our community has grown to nearly 200 members since.

Our Mission

To provide people of any and all backgrounds a path to Jesus Christ through the hospitality, worship, formation, and teachings of the Orthodox Church.

Our Vision

That our dedication to the worship of the Trinity and love of neighbor will radiate the light of Christ to our surrounding areas, calling all to fullness of life found in the Orthodox Church and the eternal Kingdom of Heaven.

The Nativity
of Our Lord

Our community is named after one of the most pivotal events in the history of the word: the birth of Jesus Christ. All of the sacred elements of that event serve as pattern for our life as a community.

First, the Incarnation of God in the flesh shows us the potential we have to unite human life with the sanctifying nature of divinity. Every part of our parish's life is rooted in our effort to welcome God's presence into the fullness of life.

The star that signaled Christ's birth teaches us to shine His life into the world, inviting all to participate in Christ's love.

The presence of the magi, the shepherds, Joseph, and Mary is reflected in our effort to welcome people of all walks of life into our community. From the rich to the poor, across a variety of ethnic backgrounds, this parish is a home for all who seek peace, hope, and life.

And just as Christ's birth took place in a simple and humble manger, so we seek to fulfill all of these virtues in humility and meekness.
